The Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay which ranks 30th in the world, has been acclaimed among the best rated departments in terms of teaching quality, research contributions, high-end consultancy, outreach, manpower training and academic leadership.
AAKAAR, the annual technical festival of Civil engineering, IIT Bombay, is in its 10th edition. Started back in 2009 by young civil engineers and eminent professors of IIT Bombay, AAKAAR has nurtured itself as India's largest Civil Engineering College festival and is all set to achieve new milestones through various innovative competitions, workshops, lecture series, panel discussions keeping in mind various sectors of civil engineering.
Identifying the impact of civil engineering activities on natural resources and ways to reduce their environmental impact without affecting the standard of living, AAKAAR came up with a theme ‘Conserving Nature, Innovating Future’. AAKAAR served as a platform to discuss and provide smart and feasible solutions for building sustainable infrastructure.
AAKAAR was a unique channel, where the nascent ideas were clad through the Poster Presentation which involves nine fields to choose from, and a Lecture in Symposium.
The flagship components of Aakaar 2017 were as follows:
Competition involves activities which bring out one’s best by providing a platform to transform imagination into reality. It also gives an opportunity to excel by interacting, competing and most importantly learning with the best minds of the country. It is thus well said that the real learning comes about when the competitive spirit has ceased. Keeping this in mind, we try our best to put up competitions involving new, innovative and mind bashing ideas with an aim to turn on the spark in the minds of Civil Engineers into a flame.
And there were some online competitions also launched. One of which was a software competition by Bentley.
Events provide an opportunity to interact and get insight from pre-eminent industrialists and academicians through lecture series, Panel Discussion and opportunity to try your hands at professional softwares and also to visit the best equipped laboratories in the country and get creative with your knowledge to have fun with total strangers. This year we organised:
The main purpose of the fest is to promote cross cultural miscellany and provide a joint platform for students of the Civil Engineering Fraternity from all strata of society to interact and assist the flow of knowledge. Various informal events are held to connect the participants with each other and expand their social group.
Apart from main events and activities during the festival, we had launched many informal activities in Aakaar page and website .Monday materials was a series of articles released on a weekly basis on materials form the basis of everything around us, in general and even more so in the civ il engineering. Tuesday Teasers was an online Civil Engineering Crossword Competition and it received humongous response . We also have Akshar blog for aakaar where we provided documentation regarding various civil related things ,intern extravaganza where many students share their intern experience and many more.
We strive to achieve excellence every year through our constant efforts to showcase an extravaganza which is a benchmark in terms of the sheer variety of events happening and their execution exuding professionalism and sophistication of the highest order.
Team Aakaar will work round the year to present an amalgamation of amazing events and on that note, we hope to see you at AAKAAR 2018 !!!
AAKAAR aims at creating a platform to compete, learn and promote Civil Engineering amongst the education fraternity through Competitions, Events and ICES, IIT Bombay (research paper conference) and also to make a festival of all and for all the Civil Engineering students.
